This board includes authentic legendary Yamaha FM chips and features a stereo headphone amplifier.
The Yamaha YMF262 (OPL3) was popular in sound cards such as the Sound Blaster 16. The OPL3 is backwards compatible with the Yamaha YM3812 (OPL2), to which it is very similar. OPL is an acronym for FM Operator Type-L.
special version of adlib tracker, that supports OPL3LPT, can be found here: https://github.com/pdewacht/at2lpt/releases
The software of the OPL2 does also work with the OPL3:
- DOS game compatibility using the ‘adlipt’ project: https://github.com/pdewacht/adlipt/releases/latest
- TSR driver ADLIPT for 386+ machines: https://github.com/pdewacht/adlipt/tree/master/adlipt
- DOS game patching utility (any processor): https://github.com/pdewacht/adlipt/tree/master/adpatch
- OPLT2TEST testing utility (no driver): https://github.com/pdewacht/adlipt/tree/master/opl2test
The drivers of DOS games writes by default to the Adlib Card on port 388h, which has to be rerouted to the Parallel Port on port 378h.
This can be done with the DOS command:adlipt lpt1
The PCB needs to be powered separately through the USB mini connector. When the PC is reset, the last notes will just hang instead of shut off. The PCB will keep playing the last notes until a new game or driver is started, or the reset button on the PCB is pressed.
